Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 100 bridges in 25 districts for traffic on Monday. Of the bridges, 46 are in Chattogram division, 17 in Sylhet division, 14 in Barishal division, seven each in Dhaka and Rajshahi division, six in Mymensingh division and three in Rangpur division.
The bridges, constructed at a cost of over Tk 879 crore, established direct road connectivity with the capital as they made 33 routes free from ferry services that will make road communication smooth, quicker, easier and safer.
Millions of people especially the impassable mountainous regions of the country are so much happy, enthusiastic and delighted to witness the opening of their respective dream bridge to traffic. Most of the bridges have been constructed on regional highways and district roads.

After the inauguration of the super structure Padma Multi Purpose Bridge the government has also opened three important new bridges -- Kalna Bridge in Narail, Bekutia Bridge in Pirojpur, and 3rd Shitalakhya Bridge in Narayanganj. We applaud the government for opening 100 bridges only three months after the inauguration of Padma Bridge and three other important bridges.
It has been possible to implement the projects including mega ones successfully amid many challenges and global crisis because of Sheikh Hasina’s earnest efforts and strong supervision. The government continued making developments up to the grassroots level braving odds, conspiracies and obstacles.
We hope people in the impassable hilly regions and remote areas of the country will have no difficulties in crossing the rivers, water bodies and canals and they can now travel their respective destinations quickly and safely. Besides, these 100 bridges will change the entire economic landscape of the regions and contribute largely to communication, trade, industry, tourism and many other sectors in various ways.
The inauguration of 100 bridges is like a fresh beginning of thoughts, works, words and actions to go ahead with vision and mission. Therefore, authorities concerned should inspect these 100 bridges and maintain properly in order to keep them in good and serviceable condition.
