100 AC double-decker e-buses likely for Dhaka, Ctg by 2023

The government is planning to add 300 AC double-decker electric buses to the carcade of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) out of which 100 e-buses are likely to be procured this year, said a press release.   

This was known following a meeting of between Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Dr Binoy George at the minister’s office in the Secretariat.

These 300 AC e-buses will be procured under a line of credit (LOC) deal signed with India. The minister has requested Indian to initially supply 100 electric buses for Dhaka and Chittagong cities within this year.

Obaidul Quader said the government is working on an electric motor vehicle policy to reduce carbon emissions by 2030. The policy will be sent to the cabinet this month.

Later, Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Heru Hartanto Subolo paid a courtesy call on Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at the Secretariat. During the meeting, mutual development and cooperation between the two countries were discussed. 

BSS adds: The government is planning to procure 300 electric double-decker air-conditioned (AC) buses from India for the state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).

The discussion was come out as Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dr Binoy George made a courtesy call on Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at his secretariat office here today, said a press release. 

These 300 electric-run double-decker AC buses will be procured for the BRTC under a line of credit (LOC) deal signed with India, said the press release. 

The minister, during the meeting, also requested the Indian government to initially deliver 100 electric buses within this year for Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan cities.

Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, said the government is working to enact electric motor vehicle registration and operation policy-2023, aiming to deplete carbon dioxide emissions.

The policy will be sent to the cabinet this month, said the release.

Later, the minister called on the Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Heru Hartanto Subolo.

During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest between the two friendly countries.
