At least 10 people were injured after when gas balloons exploded during the 'July Uprising Day' celebration programme at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital city of Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

The explosion occurred around 2:30pm.

Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the NIBPS, said 10 people with minor burn injuries were brought to the institute.

They were given primary treatment, he added.

At 2:25pm on this day last year, ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India in the face of the mass uprising. According to the organisers, balloons were released to mark the exact moment of her departure.

They said one of the gas balloons was designed in the shape of a helicopter, symbolising the manner in which Sheikh Hasina left by helicopter.
