10 policemen killed in road crash remembered

Narsingdi district police paid tribute to the 10 policemen killed who were killed in a road accident on January 15, 2011 in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, PPM of Narsingdi paid tribute on Monday morning by placing wreath at "Dripta Saphat" monument built in memory of the policemen who died in Ghashirdia area of Shibpur Upazila of Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. Later, a prayer session was arranged for the salvation   of souls of the departed policemen.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops), Anirban Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance), S.A.M. Fazal-e-Khuda, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB), Shamsul Arefin, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sadar Circle, K, M, Shahidul Islam Sohag, Assistant Police Raipura Circle, Afsan-al-Alam, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Shibpur Circle, Md. Mesbahuddin, Officer-in-charge of Shibpur Model Police Station Md. Farid Uddin, Officer-in-charge of Belabo Police Station Azizur Rahman, Deputy Inspectors (SI) of various Police Stations and various members of the District Police. Acting Chairman of Shibpur Upazila Parishad Taapsee Rabeya, Upazila Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Mahmudul Hasan Russell were also present at this time.

On 15 January 2011, 10 policemen lost their lives in a road accident while on duty. On that day, on the way from Belabo Police Station to attend an election briefing at Narsingdi district Police Lines, 10 policemen including the officer-in-charge (OC) and Inspector (Investigation) of Belabo Police Station were killed on the spot in a head-on collision between a police pick-up truck and a truck at a place called Dhaka-Sylhet Ghashirdia (Pukurpar). 

The deceased policemen were Belabo Police Station Officer-in-Charge Farooq Ahmed Khan (42), Inspector (Investigation) Ziaul Haque Khan (40), SI Kangkan Kumar Mondal (46), Constable Krishnakanth Barman (40), Constable Riaz (38), Constable Bajlu. (34), Constable Masood Parvez (36), Constable Narayan Chand (40), driver Rezaul Karim (35) and Constable Priyotosh (36).
