10-day awareness drive of DNCC from Saturday

A 10-day 'Mask Amar, Suraksha Sabar' (My mask, everyone’s safety) campaign will start from tomorrow (Saturday) to raise public awareness in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area. It will continue till January 31. 

DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam made the remarks while addressing a virtual meeting on Thursday morning.

The mayor said that five lakh masks would be distributed in 10 days of the campaign starting from 10:30 am every day through a total of 72 councilors in 54 wards of DNCC. The campaign will run in public places including shopping malls, bus stands and raw markets.

The mayor also instructed to spread awareness in each ward by announcing public awareness messages. 

“Masks would be distributed among the people coming in to pray every Friday and government directives issued in the public interest would be spread at the mosques,” he said.

Earlier, under the health protection program, 21 lakh 17 thousand 400 surgical masks, 1 lakh 33 thousand 650 bottles of hand sanitizer, 50 thousand three-layer cloth masks, two thousand bottles (250 ml) of liquid handwash and 240 thousand pieces were distributed, added the DNCC mayor. 

The mayor said, “Soaps have been distributed. In addition, about two and a half lakh more soaps have been distributed to the low-income residents of the slum areas by the Living Quality Improvement Project.”

He further said that Mohakhali Market of DNCC has been converted into one thousand bed DNCC Dedicated Covid-19 Hospital.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Selim Reza, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Mohammad Jobaidur Rahman and others were present at the meeting.
