When the water started receding from the flooded villages and heavy and moderate rains from Saturday night, there was a risk of floods again. One lakh people of Chakaria, Pekua, Eidgaon, Ramu and Sadar upazilas are in waterlogged condition. Due to the hill slope, a large part of the Ramu-Eidgarh road has been cut off and communication has been cut off in the area. Chakaria Upazila Chairman Fazlul Karim Sayedee said the erosion of Matamuhuri and Bakkhali rivers in the district is increasing despite the declining water level in the hills. Hundreds of houses have been submerged in the river as a result of landslides at several points on the Matamuhuri River. The erosion has occurred in Fasiakhali, Kaiyarbil, Kakara, BMchar, East Bara Veola, Shaharbil, Chakaria municipal areas of Matamuhuri river. On the other hand, erosion of Bakkhali river Gorjaniya, Rajarkul, Jhilangja, Ramu Point rivers have occurred. On the other hand, the roaring Rajarkul Jhilangja Ramu Point river of Bakkhali river has broken, local people's representatives said. Locals have complained that the closure of 11 canals in the Chakaria Sundarbans area has caused severe obstruction to the flood waters.
Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mamunur Rashid said 525 villages in Cox's Bazar were affected by continuous rains and landslides. More than 4 lakh people from 6,500 families have been affected. Out of 61 unions and 4 municipalities of the district, 51 unions and one municipality have been inundated by the floods this year. The district administration is talking about the huge damage caused by the floods.
Heavy to moderate rains have started in the district since Saturday night and floods are expected again.
Cox's Bazar Additional Deputy Commissioner Amin Al Parvez said that raining started again from Saturday night.
