1,600 pregnant women get financial aid in Jamalpur

A total of 15,000 poor pregnant mothers and adolescents in 24 unions under seven upazilas of Jamalpur district have received free treatment, while over 1600 pregnant women got financial assistance from Parbatipur Lamb Hospital in Dinajpur.

The financial assistance was given to the beneficiary pregnant women in cooperation with UNFPA.

On the occasion, a function was organized by health department  at the Civil Surgeon’s office in Jamalpur on Thursday. Before the function, the free medical care to the pregnant women were provided.

A total of 27 lakh and 37 thousand taka was handed over to the pregnant mothers and adolescents at the function. 

Chairman of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Parishad Mohammad Abul Hossain was present as the chief guest with Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Mahfuzur Rahman in the chair. Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Asa Ferguson, Atahar Ali, Delwar Jahan of UNFPA and Mahatab Uddin Leiton of Lamb Hospital were also present at the event. 

Lamb Hospital’s project manager Mahatab Uddin Liton said that a grant of Tk 27 lakh  and 37 thousand  has been given to 1,610 pregnant women.

The Lamb Hospital will bear the burden of providing medical care for better treatment  only of  women in the flood plains. 

In addition, CERF (Center Emergency Response Fund) will provide free  medical care, medical assistance to poor and complex patients, reimbursement for improved treatment.
