The University Grant Commission (UGC) with provide an interest-free loan to 1508 students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) to help them buy smartphones to attend online classes during coronavirus pandemic.
Each student will receive Tk 8,000 by January 31, payable in four installments after reopening of the university, the UGC said press release issued last week.
The regulatory body took the decision on loan at a virtual meeting held on October 11 with its chairman Professor Kazi Shahidullah in the chair.
UGC will provide the fund to the university in advance under fiscal year 2020-21 since the university has already prepared the lists of students who require financial assistance.
