Custom officials arrested a man along with 1.22 kilogram smuggled gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Saturday night.
The arrestee is identified as Anwar Hossain.
Officials of Dhaka Customs House said that alleged gold smuggler Anwar arrived at the airport by a flight of Emirates Airlines from Dubai.
According to Sanwarul Kabir, Deputy Commissioner of Customs House (Preventive), getting secret information members of the Preventive Team of the Customs House took position at the key points of the airport. At one stage, the officials challenged Anwar for his suspicious movement when he was crossing the boarding bridge of the airport.
“Later, we found 1.22 kilogram of gold hidden in his rectum”, he added.
The value of the seized gold was estimated around TK 1.5 crore.
Anwar was handed over to the Airport Police Station after filing a case against him under the Customs Act.
