With the financial support of the Canadian organisation Geco Foundation, Lions Eye Institute and Hospital will continue to provide free cataract surgery to poor patients in Chattogram.
1,155 helpless, destitute and homeless patients from rural areas, hilly and coastal areas were brought to the hospital in three phases and their vision was restored and they were rehabilitated in the society through cataract surgery by financial support JECO Foundation.
On Sunday afternoon, a press conference was organised by the Chattogram Lions Eye Institute and Hospital, which is financially supported by the Canadian organisation 'JECO Foundation' for free cataract surgery to poor and needy patients in the Chattogram region.
This information was given at the 2nd meeting of the Governing Body of the Chattogram Lions Foundation for the 2025-26 term. The meeting was held at the Halima Rokeya Memorial Hall of the CLF Complex under the chairmanship of the Foundation's Chairman PDG Lion Nasiruddin Chowdhury MJF.
In the meeting, the annual budget for the next fiscal year was approved for the Chattogram Lions Foundation and the Foundation's projects. The draft budget was presented by the Foundation's Treasurer Lion Alhaj S. Joha Chowdhury. He presented the various activities of the Foundation and the progress of the hospital's work in recent times, while the organization's Secretary Lion Dr. Debashish Dutta described it.
At the press conference, Chairman PDG Lion Nasiruddin Chowdhury said that this humanitarian Canadian organization 'JECO Foundation' under the supervision of Chattogram Lions Eye Institute and Hospital, has been continuously providing financial assistance to helpless, distressed and indigent cataract patients in remote rural, inaccessible hilly and coastal areas of Greater Chattogram by replacing lenses and restoring vision. With the financial support of the JECO Foundation, we have been able to bring 1,155 helpless, distressed and destitute patients from remote rural, remote mountainous and coastal areas to the hospital in three phases and restore their eyesight through cataract surgery and rehabilitate them respectfully in the society.
All these activities of our hospital have always been monitored by the Coordinator of the Bangladesh Chapter of the Canadian organization 'JECO Foundation', Lions District 315-B3, Former District Governor of Bangladesh, Lion Eng. Wahidur Rahman Azad. As a humanitarian foreign organization, the necessary assistance is provided to the needy and poor patients of our country for cataract surgery.
The meeting was attended by former district governors including former chairman of the foundation Lion MA Malek, Lion Kabir Uddin Bhuiyan, Lion SM Shamshuddin, Lion Kohinoor Kamal, District Governor of Lions Clubs International, District 315-B4, Bangladesh, elected District Governor Mosleh Uddin Ahmed Apu, Associate Secretary of the Foundation's Management Committee Lion SM Ashraful Alam Arju, and Hospital Director Dr. Mohammad Mohiuddin.
