Afghan batsman Hazratullah Zazai and Bangladesh ace all rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s brilliant performances helped Dhaka Dynamites to beat Khulna Titans by a comprehensive margin of 105 runs in the BPL match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Zazai once again stood out among the batters as he played a dazzling knock of 57 runs off 36 balls to help Dhaka Dynamites post a mammoth total of 192/6 in the first innings.
In the second innings, Shakib’s remarkable bowling display was pivotal as Khulna were all out for just 87 runs. Shakib picked up 3 wickets by giving away only 18 runs in 3 overs.
Earlier, Khulna Titans won the toss and skipper Mahmudullah elected to field first. That decision didn’t work out well as the Dynamites were off to a blistering start with opener Zazai and Sunil Narine.
They were smashing the Titans bowlers all over the field, especially Zazai. They crossed the 50-run mark before the fifth over. Then Wiese brought the first breakthrough for the Titans as he dismissed Narine in the fifth over, leaving Dynamites at 67/1. Then Rony Talukder came in and he also batted in an aggressive manner as Dhaka crossed the 100-run mark quickly. However, he fell to
skipper Mahmudullah for 28 in 10.4 overs, leaving Dynamites
at 110/2.
In the next over Zazai and Shakib were also dismissed as Dynamites lost three wickets in quick succession. Shakib was out in the first ball he faced.
Stirling grabbed both the wickets. From there, West Indian Pollard and Russel played aggressively to help Dhaka post 192/6. For Titans, Wiese and Striling were pick of the bowlers as they both grabbed two wickets each.
Embarking on to chase 193, Khulna’s reply came to an end at the 13th over after losing three wickets in that over.
Shakib Al Hasan, the Dynamites skipper, took three wickets and Sunil Narine grabbed two.
Junaid Siddique and Ariful Haque were the only batsmen to offer some resistance for Khulna. Junaid posted 31 runs and Ariful scored 19.
Khulna lost nine wickets in 87 runs and the match ended as Ali Khan, the USA recruit of Khulna, was unable to bat as he hurt his leg during fielding.
As a result, Dhaka won the match by 105 runs.
With this win Dhaka Dyna
mites won two consecutive matches in contrast to Khulna Titans who lost two consecutive matches.
Dhaka will play Rangpur Riders in their next match on 11 January at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium while Khulna will take on Rajshahi Kings in their next match on
9 January.
