The World Toilet Day 2018 was observed in Dhaka like other countries of the world. The theme for the day this year is ‘When nature calls’.
On the occasion, some organizations arranged events in the capital city on Monday. Quazi Enterprise Limited brought out a rally on the Dhaka University campus. Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the rally as the chief guest.
Officials of the organizations and companies and some students of Dhaka University joined the rally.
The United Nations General Assembly in 2013 designated November 19 as the World Toilet Day. The day had previously been marked by international and civil society organizations all over the world but was not formally recognized as an official UN day until 2013. The World Toilet Day was created by the World Toilet Organization in 2001. The World Toilet Day is coordinated by UN-Water in collaboration with Governments and relevant stakeholders. About two billion people around the world use drinking water that may be contaminated with feces and 4.5 billion people live without access to a safe toilet. This means that many people are left to defecate outside which contaminates their environment, their source of water and pretty much makes them live in a sewer.
