Southern University and British Council have jointly organized a workshop on creative writing at the conference room of the university in Chattogram recently.
British writer Richard Beard was the chief discussant at the function. Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Eng M Ali Ashraf delivered welcome speech, while Prof Mohammad Hasan of Business Administration department, Mozammel Haque and teachers of different departments were present at the event. Richard Beard highlighted his experience, saying that he tried to express his talent through writing. Language skills and self-confidence are important for creative writing. There should be theme and purpose in any writing, he added.
Vice-ChancellorAli Ashraf said that the practice of writing through the knowledge acquired through various authors’ books will be created. Out of the traditional trend, there is a need to prove the eligibility of creativity, he said.
It may be mentioned that Richard Beard is listed for the BBC National Short Story Award in the United Kingdom and Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award. His latest novel Act of the Assassins is short listed for the Goldsmith Award in 2015.
