Today is the birthday of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and nuclear scientist Dr M A Wazed Miah. He was born on July 27, 1971 and his name ‘Joy’ was given by his grandfather, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He has vast experience in the field of ICT and as a result Bangladesh government has made him the Advisor to the Government on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) . This can be said that Sajeeb Wazed has been a pioneer in improving the ICT sector of Bangladesh and his policies have helped the sector reach at good heights. With his enthusiasm and acumen he has turned the dreams of a digital Bangladesh into a reality.

He has studied at St. Joseph’s College in Nainital and Kodaikanal International School in Palani Hills, Tamil Nadu. Later he studied Computer Science at the University of Bangalore from where he reached the University of Texas at Arlington in the United States and graduated with a BSc in Computer Science & Engineering. Sajeeb Wazed completed his Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University.

Young as he is, there is a man inside full of humility, compassion and respect. Bangladeshis take pride in the fact that he was listed by World Economic Forum as one of its Young Global leaders.

Sajeeb Ahmed Joy recently said that Bangladesh will be 5G forerunner soon. He believes 5G is no more a dream but a reality. He has also put pressure on the regulators to reduce the cost of internet by 99 percent within 5 years.

Bangladesh is lucky to have Bangabandhu’s worthy grandson as a mentor in the ICT sector, which will soon open up numerous windows of opportunities for the youth of the country. We wish Joy a long and healthy life so that he can serve Bangladesh in many more ways to fulfill his grandfather’s dream ‘Golden Bengal’.
