The truck driver, who was arrested from Savar on Saturday, has admitted of attempt to killing television and film actress Ahona Rahman ‘in self-defence’ after an accident involving her vehicle.
Sumon Mia, 27, confessed at court that he made the attempt to escape arrest or mob beating when Ahona tried to climb on his vehicle on the day of accident. Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman recorded his confession after Sub-Inspector Uttara Police Station Humayun Kabir, also the investigation officer, produced him before the court.
Ahona was on the way to her Uttara residence accompanying her cousin in the car on January 9. A quarry-laden truck ran with Ahona hanging from its window as she engaged in a scuffle with the driver after her car was hit by the speedy truck at Sector-7 of Uttara. The driver again intentionally hit her car.
At one stage, Ahona fell on the road and sustained injuries when the rampant truck overturned. Locals rescued her and took to a nearby clinic. The truck driver fled the scene after leaving the vehicle on the spot.
Later, police seized the truck.
Ahona’s sister Liza filed a case with Uttara West Police Station on the same day, over the incident.
