H. M. Hakim Ali – a legendary entrepreneur in the hospitality industry with his highly-placed educational background and long-earned experience in running the business for over four decades is leading the country’s much prospective tourism sector.
H. M. Hakim Ali is the CEO of Hotel Agrabad, a concern of nationally and internationally renowned Agrabad Hotels Group. He is leading the hospitality industry as the president of the Bangladesh International Hotel Association (BIHA)
Born on January 1, 1951 in Bangladesh started early education in Lawrence College, Mureehills, West Pakistan. After passing secondary school examination, he returned to Bangladesh, the then East Pakistan and got admitted into a college where he completed higher secondary. Later, he got admitted into the University for LL.B. After receiving LL.B. degree, he went to Salzburg, Austria for diploma in Hotel and Tourism and subsequently proceeded to the Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, and USA for hotel and tourism management degree.
After returning from USA, he joined Hotel Agrabad as a management trainee. Within in a short period of time, he took over the charge as the CEO of the Hotel Agrabad in 1986. Due to his able management skills, active entrepreneurship and professionalism, and untiring efforts, he established a number of business and industrial enterprises.
In 1978, Hakim Ali established Intraco Tour & Travel and started package tours both inbound and outbound — the pioneer in tourism industry and attended a good number of tourism conferences in many countries.
Since 1976, he has been actively participating in many business forums and social-cultural activities both nationally and internationally. Because of his dynamic capability, he is holding the positions of the Director of Hotel International Ltd (Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka); President, Bangladesh International Hotel Association, President, Italy-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Executive Committee Member, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism of the Government of Bangladesh. Chairman, Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development, Awarded ‘Man of Achievement’ by the International Biographical Centre, England, elected member of the Hotel and Catering International Management Association; UK.
In addition, he is holding important executive positions in many national, regional and international organisations. He was also the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia for 15 years.
Presently, H. M. Hakim Ali is Honorary Consul General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Chittagong.
Monowara Hakim Ali, wife of H. M. Hakim Ali is actively involved in business and socio-economic activities. Monowara, a caring mother of two sons and a daughter, is President of Chittagong Women Entrepreneur and President of Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry. She is also former first-ever elected woman Director of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI) and 1st vice-president of the chamber. She participates regularly at the international trade fairs, workshop and attends international business forums. She is former Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia.
The Hakim couple is blessed with two sons and one daughter — Mohammed Riyadh Ali and Mohammed Irad Ali and Medina Ali.
Riyadh Ali, the eldest son of Hakim couple is Managing Director of the Intraco Group. He entered into business like garments industry, CNG, property development, tours & travel and international trades after his graduation. He is now Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea in Chittagong.
Mohammed Irad Ali completed graduation from Canberra University, Australia in 2005 and joined business with his brother in Dhaka. Presently he is Deputy Managing Director of the Intraco Group.
Medina Ali graduated from New York University, New York in Information Technology.
Hakim Ali is Chairman of Intraco Tours & Travel, Intraco CNG Ltd, Intraco Properties Ltd and Managing Director of Intraco (Bangladesh) Limited. He is Director of the Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, member of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Ambassador The World Food Travel Association for Bangladesh, President of South Asia Tourism Federation (SAFT), Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development and International Vacation Club. He is also Chief Advisor of Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh & Bangladesh Inbound Tour Operators Association, past vice president of South Asia Hotel & Tourism Association, Katmandu, Nepal and Editor of Tourism International — a monthly English news bulletin on tourism.
H. M. Hakim Ali visited a good number of countries including USA, UK, Germany, France, Canada, Italy, Myanmar, Japan, Greece, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Russia, Holland, China, Pakistan, India, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Nepal, Burma, UAE, Sri Lanka, Austria, Germany, Kuwait, Niger, Mali etc.
The awards he achieved include South Asia Integrated Tourism Human Resource Development Programme by National Tourism Human Resource Development Committee, Platinum Technology Award by International Research & Consultants, Geneva, International Trophy for Quality by Trade Leaders Club, Madrid, Royal Crown to Excellence Award by International Selection Committee, Mexico City, America, International Star Award for Quality in the Gold Category by Business Initiative Directions, Madrid, Successful Entrepreneurs Award-2003-04.
Besides, he received ‘Best of Compliments’ by Chittagong University, ‘The Diamond Eye Award’, by a Paris-based organisation Otherways International Research and Consultants, ‘Worldwide Quality Award XXI Century’ by Worldwide Marketing Organization, ‘The Global Award for Perfection and Ideal Performance and ‘TQCS’ Accreditation and Program” by Other Ways Int’l
