Awami League-backed mayoral candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and BNP candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul set an example of friendship by helping create a peaceful environment ahead of the Rajshahi city election as they hug each other during their campaign, showing beauty of democracy.
Such display of amicable relation predicts a peaceful and participatory election scheduled to be held on July 30. Now local people are hopeful of a non-violent polls and they are enthused to cast their votes amid joy and happiness.
Meanwhile, our Rajshahi Correspondent adds: Aspirations of people of Rajshahi have been spoiled during last five-year tenure of Rajshahi City Corporation. There was no development of the city, and no employment opportunity was created for the city dwellers.
Awami League led Grand-alliance supported mayoral candidate for the upcoming Rajshahi city polls, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton made the comment while delivering speech at a views- exchange meeting titled ‘Upcoming City Corporation Elections and what we should do’, organised by Swadhinota Chikitsak Parishad at Rajshahi Medical College auditorium on Thursday noon.

Reffering to BNP’s candidate, he said the former mayor failed to pay arrear salaries of his staff and employees before the Eid and managed to escape RCC premises fearing agitated staff and employees, how will he do any good to the one million city dwellers?

He said BNP did not get any profit by electing Bulbul as mayor in past; neither it would get any profit from him in future.
Liton further said, “It is not possible to develop Rajshahi without solving unemployment problem of the city; that is why I want to create employment opportunity for 100, 000 people through industrialisation in Rajshahi.”
He pledged to provide gas-connections in every household, and to establish more educational institutions including government institutions.

Moreover, he pledged to develop Rajshahi in all respect and sought co-opration and vote from all to perform his works for the betterment of city people.

Newly-elected mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque who attended the function as chief guest said, “Man is generally appreciated for his work. But, in 2013 elections, we were defeated even after conducting good deed. As a result, although the country developed, there was no development for Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet cities because of ineptness of BNP-backed mayors in those cities.”

Talukder Abdul Khaleque further said, “During the last five years, city dwellers of Rajshahi has realised by whom the city’s development can be possible. He said, in the past they developed their respective cities and in 2013 both of them( He and Liton) were defeated. But, this year the vote of development has been inaugurated from Khulna and a prospect has been created to work together once again. If people of Rajshahi voted Liton to Mayor of Rajshahi, the development of the city he would do would not be able to be done by any once else. He added, there was no alternative to Liton in question to development of Rajshahi.
Presided over by Professor Dr. Chinmoy Kanti Das, President of Swadhinota Chikitsak Parishad, Rajshahi district unit, the function was addressed by Professor Dr. Iqbal Arsalan, President of Swadhinota Chikitsak Parishad and Professor Dr. M.A. Aziz, Secretary General of Swadhinota Chikitsak Parishad.
