Inmates of Sylhet central jail were shifted to the newly constructed district central jail at Badaghat area in the city from the old central jail at Dupadhigirpar on Friday.
A total of 2300 prisoners were shifted from the 230-year old Dupadhigirpar jail amid tight security around the jail as well as on both sides of roads through when they were being shifted.
Jailer Abu Sayem of Sylhet central jail told Bangladesh Post on Friday evening.
A number of Sylhet police personnel performed security
duties during the time, said Zedan Al Musa ADC of Sylhet metropolitan police.
The new central jail building was constructed at a cost of around Tk 227 crore.
