BUFT student from the Department of Fashion Design & Technology (FDT), Farzana Akther Shumi, who participated in the ‘International Graduate Fashion Spectacle (IGFS) 2018’, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka has achieved the ‘Award of Excellence for Outstanding Collection’ for her designs, says a press release. Her collection was about ‘Nakshi Kantha-a folk art of Bengal’. Some old ‘Kantha’ of the 19th century has been presented. The craftsmanship created spontaneously light color weaves a colorful and divers coloring design. The collections are inspired by the same folk art through its motifs of ‘Nakshi Kantha’ into Shibori dye by hand stitching. This folk art represents the ‘Tradition of Contexture’ in women’s wear collection of her.
Two other students Azizur Rahman Raihan and Shaheda Akter from the same department have also participated in the programme. Azizur Raihan who also participated with a theme ‘Ancient Diva’ (Mysterious Queen) was also nominated for another category. Shaheda Akter presented her collections based on ‘City Rush’ which has focused the life style of ‘Night Dhaka City’.
International Graduate Fashion Spectacle (IGFS) 2018 organized by Mod’Art International and Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) was held in Sri Lanka connecting international fashion graduates from seven countries to showcase their best collections in a ramp show.
