Shaheed Dr Milon Day was observed in the country on Tuesday commemorating the 28th martyrdom anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, the then joint secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and also a teacher of Dhaka Medical College.
He was killed on November 27 in 1990 by the goons of the military junta near the TSC of Dhaka University at the height of anti-autocracy movement. The supreme sacrifice of Dr Milon transformed the anti-autocracy movement into a mass upsurge that prompted the fall of the then autocratic regime paving the way for restoration of democracy in the country.
To mark the day, different socio-political and cultural organizations placed floral wreaths on the grave of Milon on Dhaka Medical College premises and Milon Smrity Chattar (Square) near TSC. The programme also included discussion and offering fateha and special munjat.
Awami League paid tribute at the grave. AL’s Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman, Science and Technology Secretary Abdus Sabur, Agriculture and Cooperatives Secretary Faridunnahar Laily and others were present at the time.
Besides, Shaheed Milon’s family, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Awami Jubo League, Chattra League, Shadhinata Chikitshak Parishad, Bangladesh Medical Association and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University paid tribute to Shaheed Milon.
Shadhinata Chikitshak Parishad organized a discussion adjacent to the grave of Dr Milon.
