A new door of employment generation opportunities has opened for the people of Sirajganj and the entire northern region as Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) has given final license to Sirajganj Economic Zone (SEZ).
The license conferring programme was held at the BEZA office in the capital on Thursday.
SEZ is going to be the country’s largest and first of its kind in economic zone in north region of the country. As the northern districts of the country are well connected with all means, the import-export and goods transportation will be easier through Burimari, Hili and Banglabandha from India, Nepal and Bhutan, analysts believe.
The EZ with a total area of 1035.93 acres of land will be established near the Jamuna river. There is also a plan to build an internal container depot to enhance connectivity with Chattogram and Mongla sea ports.
Consisting of 11 companies the EZ have possible sector of investments like textile, apparel and jute goods, pharmaceuticals, processing food, pulp and paper, ceramics, chemical products, automobile engineering, electrical and electronics, plastics, leather goods, IT park, glass industries, furniture, LPG terminal, steel industries, processing fish and ship industry.
For land, infrastructure and other development, total investment has been estimated at $2 billion and gradually it will create 500,000 jobs. Responsible sources said, these development work will be completed by 2023.
In this EZ, infrastructure like electricity, water and other facilities including CEPT, dormitory, five star hotel, health services, day care, amusement park and commercial area will construct. To make skilled manpower a technical training institute will also established.
This SEZ will help reduce excessive pressure of the capital city and as well as decentralize industrialization and creates huge job opportunities.
SEZ chairman Abdul Matin said, for rehabilitation of the people affected by the development a master plan of 100 bighas has been formulated. Besides, for land development all related work has already been finalized, if everything goes on right track then land development work will start by the end of this month.
He said, to ensure gas, electricity and water supply in this zone, planning is also submitted after having meeting with respective departments.
Congratulating the SEZ authority, BEZA chairman Paban Chowdhury said, BEZA is continuously working to establish develop Bangladesh by 2041.
He mentioned that the organization is also working to inspire the public and private organisations to establish zones and at the same time creating favorable environment in the country for investment.
Infrastructural work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City in Mirshorai and Feni is continuing in full swing. Besides Japan, Korea, China and Thailand companies showed their interest to invest in Moheshkhali, Sirajganj EZ- he informed.
BEZA executive member Md Harunur Rashid, Mohammad Ayub, SEZ director Mahmud Hasan Khan, Anwar Hossain, Aminul Islam, Kmaruzzaman, Nazrul Islam and Sheikh Monowar were also present at the programme.
