Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has become the mother of a baby boy, her husband and Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik announced on Tuesday.
Shoaib made the announcement through a Twitter post. “Excited to announce: It’s a boy, and my girl is doing great and keeping strong as usual. #Alhumdulilah. Thank you for the wishes and Duas, we are humbled,” tweeted the cricketer.
Shoaib’s manager and agent Ameem Haq tweeted that the Pakistani cricketer was “over the moon” to welcome their first child.
Sania and Shoaib have been married for more than eight years.
The career of the Indian tennis star from Hyderabad city has been dogged by an injury and her ranking slipped from number one in the world doubles – the first for an Indian woman – to 172.
She has taken a break from tennis for motherhood and hopes to return to the court before the 2020 Olympic games in Tokho.
