Jorge Sampaoli is reportedly on the verge of being sacked by the Argentine Football Association, One Football learns.
The 58-year-old led the Albiceleste to the round of 16 at this summer’s World Cup, but rumours of regular spats and a player revolt saw his position post-Russia as virtually untenable.
Negotiations have been ongoing between the coach and the AFA, with the former Sevilla man refusing to resign.
Falling on his sword would mean foregoing any compensation, and that has been the issue since the squad arrived back in Buenos Aires.
Sampaoili is due for around €20m in compensation after signing a contract until after the 2022 World Cup.
With money tight however, the powers that be at the Federation don’t want to pay that kind of cash to a failing coach.
But according to several reports in the local press, the tactician has agreed to leave with €2m.
Although the announcement has not been made officially just yet, all the indications are that it will come either on Sunday, or Monday at the latest.
