The dialogue with the PM has ended for the time being with the announcement that no more dialogue but discussions may go on for the purpose of organising a participatory and credible election. At the end of the 2nd dialogue with Oikyafront, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the people of the country want credible polls and accordingly invited all to take part in the upcoming elections ensuring that the polls will be credible.
After the dialogue with Jatiya Oikyafront on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was supposed to hold a press briefing to give some updates to the press on the outcome of the series of dialogues held since last Thursday. But, at the last moment, the programme was called off. Meanwhile, Jatiya Oikyafront also cancelled its road march towards Rajshahi. Instead, the alliance will hold a public meeting in Rajshahi this afternoon.
Meanwhile, last evening Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda announced in a televised address to the nation that the 11th parliamentary election will be held on December 23.
Last date for submission of nomination papers is 19 November. Date for scrutiny of papers is 22 November. Last date for withdrawal of papers is 29 November. National elections will be held on 23 December, 2018.
The CEC has urged all to show their restraints before, during and after the voting to maintain law and order throughout the country.
