Day before yesterday and yesterday the talk of the town was video conferencing of Tarique Zia from London with nomination seeking candidates. Awami league and many civil society members are in confusion as to how a person who has been served sentence in a case and who is a fugitive before the court of law can take active part in politics. In this connection, Awami League has written letter to EC bringing charge of violation of code of conduct before election. The CEC has given his word about launching an investigation into the matter as per election laws and regulations. Meanwhile, BNP has said that how candidates will be interviewed is their internal affair and no one can dictate them in this respect. Social media is quite busy with interesting posts on one side accusing the other side of violating code of conduct.
Well, the second talk of the town last two days is the desire expressed by a youtubian comedian named Hero Alom. The words of this young man of no mentionable background has gone viral after he said that he is better and more popular than many candidates so he will also seek nomination to contest the upcoming election. One has to wait a day or two more to know what happens in the end.
Media informs that Awami League has almost finalized its candidates after careful scrutiny. Some sources say that nearly 50 old leaders including ministers and MPs may not get nomination this time. This is a clear indication that AL is looking for new, educated and vibrant candidates to come to parliament.
In some constituencies women voters will be a major factor for the candidates. A report says that the number of women voters is more than men voters in 18 districts. It is true that in many places including Dhaka, one can see a good number of women supporters joining their male counterparts in raising slogans on behalf of their candidates.
Jatiya party has submitted a list of 76 candidates to Awami League. Awami League is also ready to let go about 70 seats for the alliance members. On the other hand, BNP aspirants are passing days in great tension as final list has not been prepared by the party yet.
