Shai Hope, Kieran Powell and Soumya Sarkar struck fifties in the two-day practice match between West Indies and Bangladesh Cricket Board XI that ended in a draw at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong. Soumya, who earned a Test call-up after nearly a year, was the BCB XI’s top scorer with 78. His knock came off 103 balls and included ten fours and three sixes.
West Indies batted first, with Hope hitting ten fours and three sixes in his 112-ball 88. Powell made 72 off 142 balls with six fours and a six. They added 145 runs for the second wicket, before Hope retired out to allow the middle order to have a hit. But Sunil Ambris (17), Roston Chase (35), Shimron Hetmyer (24) and Shane Dowrich (24) only managed brief stays, before the visitors declared their innings at 303 for 7 in the 87th over.
Offspinner Nayeem Hasan, who earned a national call-up for the first Test against West Indies, bowled the most, taking 2-104 from 26 overs. Shafiul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Fazle Mahmud and Sarkar chipped in with a wicket each.
In response, the openers led the way for BCB XI, putting on 126, before Sarkar perished to Jomel Warrican’s left-arm spin. Partner Shadman Islam, the highest scorer of this NCL season, went on to get 73 in a knock that included ten fours and a six.
Shannon Gabriel took two wickets for the visitors, while Kemar Roach and Warrican took one each.
Chattogram, Nov 19 (UNB) – The two-day practice match between Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI and touring West Indies Test side ended in a draw at MA Aziz Stadium here on Monday.
Replying to visitors’ 303/7-d, BCB XI amassed 232 for five in 75 overs on the second day.
West Indies declared their innings in the morning without adding to their overnight total.
In the BCB XI innings, one-day match specialist Soumya Sarkar scored 78 off 103 balls, including 10 boundaries and three sixes, before being caught by Sunil Ambris off Jomel Warrican to slice off from an opening stand.
Soumya, who played in the longest format of the game last in October 2017 and got call for the first Test, shared 126 off 34.2 overs with opener Shadman Islam.
After the dismissal of Soumya, Shadman continued in the next stand with Nazmul Hossain Shanto for another partnership of 47 off 16.4 overs, but Shanto [21 off 48b; 2×4] was bowled out by Kemar Roach at 173/2 in 51 overs.
Mohammad Mithun, who got a spot in the squad for the first Test against West Indies, played for not out 27* off 70 balls, including three boundaries. Wicketkeeper-batsman Zakir Hasan[18 off 34b; 3×4] was another double-digit scorer for BCB XI.
Shannon Gabriel [2/24], Kemar Roach [1/18] and Jomel Warrican [1/51] shared five wickets for the visitors.
The first Test will begin at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on November 22 while the second match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on November 30.
