Pedro Jimenez, a 63-year-old production assistant on Starz’s ‘Power’ is dead after being fatally struck by an SUV on set. The accident occurred around 4:30AM ET Monday, December 10, while setting up parking cones for a Brooklyn location shoot for the series’ sixth season. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of the members of our family,” a Starz spokesperson told the site on Monday.
Production on ‘Power’s sixth season has temporally been shut down. A move made out of respect for the family of Jimenez. The victim’s family was reportedly informed of his death almost immediately after he was pronounced dead by medical authorities at Brooklyn Hospital on the morning of December 10.
Since news of the accident, the show’s stars have spoken out with heartfelt messages on social media. “I just learned we lost Pedro Jimenez, a member of the ‘Power’ production team early this morning. My prayers and condolences are with the entire Jimenez family,” the show’s executive producer, 5O Cent, wrote on Instagram alongside a plain black photo.
Omari Hardwick, who plays the show’s main character, ‘Ghost’, also wrote a lengthy and emotional message on Instagram, alongside a screenshot of an article about the incident. He wrote in part: “On this ‘just another work day’, we all were & are faced with the harshest of realities that a wife has lost her husband, children their father and friends, their beautiful hardworking Gracious Pedro. As the QB of this show & as the face of the network, this has of course affected me. But as a person in communication & exchange of spirit as much as i was with good ole Pedro, I’m rocked. No team ever imagines losing a teammate. Let alone like this. On behalf of ALL of us here at Power, we send our deepest condolences to the entire Jimenez family & God, we as that you warmly receive our good ole Pedro.”
