Power Division has initiated a move to introduce enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to bring all of its officials and that of its subordinate bodies under one platform.
As part of the move, a Tk 29 crore contract was recently signed between the Power Division and Microsoft with three other ICT (information and communication technology) firms Computer Services, Techno Heaven and Tech Vision, to introduce an online system under which the officials will be able to get real-time data and instantly make their decisions on any issue.
State minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid was present as the chief guest at the deal-signing ceremony at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital on Monday. As per the deals, the firms would help power division under power, energy and mineral resources ministry for quick execution of the ERP.
Addressing the function, State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid said the Power Division has been the first to initiate such a move to digitalise the system as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s vision.
Nasrul Hamid said the ERP would help utilise the resources properly and accelerate the country’s overall economy. It would help develop human resources and their utilisation, ensure proper supply chain management, client service, sales and purchase.
Initially, Power Division and 14 of its organisations would come under the ERP management, he added.
Iqbal Habib, also an architect and environment activist, said once the proposed online system is introduced, every official will have access to the platform and anyone of them can take decisions on any issue seeing the data and records.
It was said in the ceremony the first phase work will be completed within 3 month and the total work will completed by one year.
Tech Vision made a presentation on the issue. By downloading an app, this software allows mobile, tabs and even desktops to work. So time will save. Now only the subscriber has to apply online. But the rest work is completed by hand-in-hand. After installing this software, the next step will be to perform the steps. If a customer want to know his work progress then he can got it easily by online.
Power secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, power cell director general Mohammad Hossain and Microsoft’s local representative Gias Uddin also spoke at the event.
