Windies interim ODI skipper Rovman Powell yesterday hailed Sylhet International Stadium’s facilities in a pre match press conference, ahead of today’s (Friday) series deciding ODI match in Sylhet. Sylhet International Cricket Stadium’s journey started with a Twenty20 against Sri Lanka in February this year.
In the last series against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh played Test match at this ground. Therefore, this will be the inaugural One Day International match of the stadium. Both Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe cricket teams were impressed by the beauty of the Sylhet field. Now, West Indies captain Rowman Powell said at the pre-match press conference, “It is an incredibly beautiful stadium.
I’m fascinated by the opportunities and facilities here. I was very surprised and it’s very nice.”
Tigers’ skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza also had the same tune like his counterpart, “This field is certainly one of the best in Bangladesh. Sylhet is very beautiful and the area around the stadium is stunning,” said Mashrafe.
The ODI debut of this naturally captivating stadium, in the Lakkatura area of Sylhet is on Friday. So there is a different passion and festivity around the match. On top of that Friday’s match will be the series decider. The demand for tickets is expectedly high-priced. On Monday, there were thousands of people gathered in the line e to buy a ticket in front of the stadium. People gathered there before sunrise. Until the afternoon the line stretched far to the city’s Ambrkhana Road. Supporters also complained about the additional price at which tickets were being sold.
Despite complaints, there were smiles of relief after getting the tickets. If all things go accordingly, Sylhet it will be another packed stadium in today’s match, which can give Tigers extra support.
