World Standards Day today

The 50th ‘World Standards Day’ will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the world today (Monday) with the motto “Video standards create a global stage”, reports BSS.

On the eve of the day, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said getting better services today is no longer an expectation but a fundamental right of the consumer.

“It is essential to follow the international standards in all fields, including production, marketing and service delivery. As the national standards organisation, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) has an important role in providing the desired services to the people through formulation and development the standard of products and services,” he added. He said BSTI has to play more efficient, accountable and responsible role in fulfilling the confidence of the people. 

With the celebration of World Standards Day, he hoped that all service institutions and consumers will be more aware. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman advised to produce goods using the indigenous methods but ensuring the international quality for the produced goods. She also said that producing goods ensuring international quality is a must to implement the Vision-2021 and Vision-2041. 

Marking the day, BSTI has drawn up comprehensive programmes, including discussions at its head office, regional offices, and special programmes at Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Radio. A discussion will be held tomorrow at BSTI head office at Tejgaon in the city.
