A son has been accused of burning his mother to death with petrol because she refused to buy a motorcycle in Sreebardi of Sherpur district.

He died on Friday (October 18th) at the Sheikh Hasina Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Police have arrested son Hanif Mia (14) in the incident. Hanif is the son of Sodagar alias Sada Miah of the municipal town.

According to the complaint and police sources, Hanif pleaded his mother to buy a motorcycle on the morning of October 11. Hanufa wanted money from his mother Honufa Begum. Hanif splashed petrol on his mother's body while she was sleeping in the middle of the night and set her on fire with a lighter. Later, the family members rescued Hanufa Begum and admitted her to Sherpur Sadar Hospital and later to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Later, as her condition was critical, she was sent to Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgeon's Institute. She died Friday morning while undergoing treatment there.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sreebardi Police Station Mohammad Ruhul Amin Talukder said Dulal Mia, elder brother of Hanufa Begum, had lodged a complaint with Sreebardi Police Station. Hanif Mia was arrested on the basis of the allegations and sent to court.
