Wife among two sued over journo Nannu murder

After more than two weeks of the mysterious death of daily Jugantor journalist Moazzem Hossain Nannu, a murder case was filed against his wife and mother-in-law.

Deceased journalist’s brother Nazrul Islam filed the case with Badda police station on Monday against Nannu’s wife Shahina Hossain Pallabi and mother-in-law Shanta Parvez.

Talking to this correspondent, Badda Police OC Md Parvez Islam confirmed recording the case.
Earlier on June 13,critically burnt chief crime reporter of daily JugantorNannudied in a Dhaka hospital, only six months after the death of his son in a similar incident of fire in their apartment in Aftabnagar of city’s Badda.

On January 2, his only son Swapneel Ahmed Piyash died in a fire incident in the same room, where Moazzem was burnt.
After Nannu’s mysterious death, police launched an inquiry and called the crime scene unit of the Criminal Investigation Department 36 hours after the fire incident on the ninth-floor of a 10-storey building.

According to the FIR, the brother complained that the wife and mother-in-law set fire on the apartment and burnt Nannu in a planned way.

Nazrul said that there was a quarrel between Nannu and his wife a few hours before the incident and the mother-in-law was present in the apartment then.

After the fire incident, the wife and mother-in-law did not come to rescue the journalist. Nannu tried to douse the fire by himself and then came down to the road when locals rescued him and rushed him to the hospital, said Nazrul.
Police said that the body was buried without any post-mortem since the wife insisted for it then.

Sub-inspector Milon Fakir, the investigating officer of the case, told that they have received the complaints and will investigate accordingly.
arlier, the Gulshan Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a travel ban on Nannu’s wife Shahina Hossain Pallabi while his mysterious death is being investigated.
