BD-India coast guard DGs exchange views

Maritime security tops discussion

Indian Coast Guard Director General (DG) Krishnaswamy Natarajan made a courtesy call on Bangladesh Coast Guard DG Rear Admiral M Ashraful Haq at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Coast Guard on Monday. During the meeting, the DGs of both the countries discussed about the issues of maritime security, human trafficking, smuggling, drug smuggling and illegal fishing.

At the same time, they put emphasis on training for the coast guard members of the two countries for their skill development. Earlier on Sunday, Krishnaswamy Natarajan arrived in Dhaka on a four-day visit to Bangladesh in a bid to strengthening cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Bangladesh Coast Guard Deputy DG M Shahajahan received him at Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport. During the visit, the Indian Coast Guard chief has been accompanied by two delegation members. Natarajan will call on Bangladesh Home Minister, chief of naval staff and the DG of Bangladesh Coast Guard, said a press release of Indian High Commission to Dhaka.

He will also attend the High-Level Meeting between Indian and Bangladeshi Coast Guards. He will visit the national historical sites including the memorial of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sonargaon Folk Art and Craft Museum. The visit of Indian Coast Guard chief will strengthen the defence cooperation particularly in the field of maritime security and will make stronger existing close and friendly relations between the coast guards of both countries.

He is expected to leave Dhaka for Delhi on September 18.
