Students of Myemensingh Medical College on Thursday staged demonstration protesting the sexual harassment of a female student of the medical college. The protesters locked the main gate.
Students held a sit-in protest from morning.
A female student of M-55 batch was sexually harassed by a miscreant when she was returning to her hostel on Wednesday after Iftar. At the time, the security guards were not present at their working place.
The authorities suspended two security guards for their negligence in duty.
The protesters claimed that female students are regularly subjected to such incidents on campus due to a lack of security, adding the college authorities have not moved to act on the matter.
Additional police have been deployed on the campus to bring the situation under control, said Kotwali Circle ASP Md Al-Amin, adding that the culprit will be brought to justice.
Asked about the matter, principal of Mymensingh Medical College Prof Md Anwar Hossain said that the authorities are taking measures to identify the offender.
