Hundreds of helpless families, who are victims of repeated mysterious fire incidents in city’s Rupnagar slum, are facing serious uncertainties. Such families, victims of the latest fire-affected incident on Wednesday, have taken shelters in different places temporarily. They expressed serious concerns, as they have not yet seen any signs of rehabilitation.

Majorities of the inhabitants of the slums are manual workers depending on daily works and hence face crisis in maintaining their livelihood as they have lost almost everything in Wednesday’s fire incident. Some of the victims alleged that some vested quarters set fire in the slum areas with the ill motive to evacuate them from the slum area.

Earlier on Wednesday, a devastated fire blazed through the Rupnagar slum in the city. Local sources alleged that the mysterious fire incident was the third time in the last seven months. This slum is the one of the biggest slums in the capital. The slum was established on 100 acres of land. In the latest fire, most of the houses were gutted.

Some slum dwellers demanded unfolding the mystery behind such frequent incidents of fire in the slum. In a latest development, Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters formed a five-member committee to investigate into the fire. The committee, headed by its deputy director (ambulance) Noor Hasan, was ordered to submit its report within fifteen working days.
