Vested quarters are allegedly trying to malign the government by triggering the latest protests against the reported gang rape attempt of a housewife in Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali.

Lead political analysts told Bangladesh Post the law enforcing agencies have arrested almost all accused in all cases of violence against women. But a section of anti-government politicians are trying to create anarchy and defame the government by instigating the protest over the recent rape incidents. Reports have it that they are also hatching conspiracy to topple the government undemocratically.

Referring to the recent incidents of Savar, Sylhet and Nokakhali, the analysts said, the accused who were directly involved in these incidents of outraging the modesty of women are not any local leaders of the ruling Awami League or its associate bodies.

But these vested quarters are hatching conspiracy to use the protests and give political colour to all the incidents.

Even they are trying to blame the law enforcers who relentlessly worked to arrest allthe accused quickly.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's special assistant Barrister Biplob Baruasaid, “They (BNP-Jamat leaders)have a political agenda. They do not want punishment to the rapists. They want to come to power by any means.”

Barrister Biplob Barua, also the office secretary of the ruling Awami League said, “We also witnessedtheir ill-motivated protests during the safe road movement of the students. However, the law enforcement agencies are active to nab the anarchists.”

“There is no doubt that the rapists will face the music. The anarchists will not be spared as well,” he added.

Forests and Environment Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Delwar Hossain said, “On Tuesday,Jamaat leaders took out a large procession in city’s Mirpur area. BNP also organised a protest rally in front of the National Press Club. The leftists are also holding processionsin small groups. They are demanding punishment to the rapists.

This issue is notonly related to the rape incidents at present. It has now become a political issue, isn’t it? He asked.

Everyone knows about the government’s tough action against the rape accused. Their(BNP-Jammat’s) main target is to oust the current elected government, he said.

Many of these vested quarters are unitedly plotting against the government, he added.

Terming the protest of war crime scandal-hit Jamaat-e-Islami, Delwar said, “It is very funny. Those who raped more than two lakh women during the Liberation War in 1971, they are now demanding the punishment to the rapists.”

Seeking anonymity, a senior officer of a highly influential intelligence agency told the Bangladesh Post, “Whenever the BNP-Jamaat activists entered the protests, the spirit of the social movement has been destroyed.”

According to him, some BNP-Jammat leaders and family members of the top brass war criminals became suddenly very active to trigger the ongoing protests.

They have been engaged in a bid to turn the protest against rape into a protest against the government, he added.

He hinted that intelligence agencies are working to identify all those involved in the conspiracy to malign the government spreading rumoursin the name of protests.

According to the Intelligence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed law enforcing agencies to take stern action against the rapists and torturers of women.

The intelligence further said Sheikh Hasina has a long-standing zero tolerance policy against all sorts of violence against women.

Controversial journalist Tasneem Khalil, who claimed himself as the Editor-in-Chief of Netra News and life-term convict notorious war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi's son Masud Sayeedi in association with their hired online activists are circulating propagandas against government using the Noakhali rape attempt incident.
