Vegetable, chicken, sugar prices up

Ahead of the Eid festival prices of many essential items like, vegetables, onions, sugar, eggs and chicken have gone up in the past week while prices of edible oil and rice have slightly dropped.

This correspondent found the evidence of the price hike while visiting the capital's different wholesale and retail markets including Karwan Bazar, Rampura Bazar, Khilgaon and a few others. 

In these markets, carrots cost Tk 50 per kg, brinjal Tk 30 to Tk 40, bitter gourd Tk 40 to Tk 50, radish Tk 40 to Tk 50, potato Tk 50 to Tk 60, tomato Tk 30, okra Tk 40 to Tk 50, string beans Tk 60, sweet pumpkin Tk 20 to Tk 30, Parwal Tk 40 to Tk 50, Shajne Tk 50 to Tk 60, Potato Tk 20, Papaya Tk 40 to Tk 50, Cucumber Tk 50 to Tk 60, Peas Tk 50 to Tk 60, teasel gourd Tk 60. 

Each piece of gourd is being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 depending on the size, while cabbage is being sold at Tk 30 apiece. Green chilies are being sold at Tk 40 per kg. On average the prices of the above-mentioned essentials were Tk 2 – 5 less a week earlier.

Besides, per kg onion is being sold at Tk 40 with an increase of Tk 5.

Lemon (four pieces) is being sold at Tk 15 to Tk 20. Dried chilies at Tk 180 per kg, garlic at Tk 80 to Tk 120, ginger at Tk 80 to Tk 150 and turmeric at Tk 180 to Tk 220 per kg.

The price of per kg sugar in the market has increased by Tk 2 and is being sold at Tk 80. Packet sugar per kg is Tk 78. 

BR-28 rice is being sold at Tk 48 to Tk 50 per kg, Miniket at Tk 63 to Tk 64, Nazirshail rice at Tk 65 to Tk 68, coarse rice at Tk 45 to Tk 48. The price of loose edible oil dropped from Tk 139 to Tk 135 per liter.

Sonali chickens are being sold at Tk 260 to Tk 280 per kg, broilers at Tk 155 to Tk 160 per kg, and layers at Tk 230 to Tk 240 per kg. 

The prices of beef and mutton, spices and other products remained unchanged in the market. Mutton is being sold at Tk 700 to Tk 750 per kg, and beef at Tk 580 per kg.

However, price of different categories of fish remain same as in the past week. 

In these markets, per kg chital fish was selling at Tk 450 to Tk 500 per kg, Awn fish at Tk 500, Rohi is at Tk 250 to Tk 350 per kg, Katla at Tk 280 to Tk 380, Tilapia sold at Tk Tk 150, Boal fish at Tk 400 to Tk 500, Pangas is sold at Tk 140 to Tk 170, Pabda sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250, and Shing sold at Tk 300 to Tk 450 (based on quality and size).
