The government is going to reopen the online registration process for Covid-19 vaccination for the mass people lowering the age limit.

Prof Dr Robed Amin, spokesperson of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), at the daily briefing on Monday, said the registration process would resume on Thursday with the age limit of 35.

The registration was stopped in the last week of April due to the vaccine crisis.

Only medical and dental students, university students, law enforcement personnel and expatriate workers could register and get the vaccine on priority basis since then.

The mass vaccination was resumed recently after the arrival of Moderna and China’s Sinopharm vaccine.

“The age limit for vaccine eligibility will be 35 and above which was 40 earlier,” Dr Amin said.

The government on Monday recorded 164 deaths due to Covid-19 and 9,964 positive cases in the past 24 hours.

This was the highest number in a single day in terms of both fatality and infection since the pandemic began last year in March.

The official tally showed the virus killed 15,229 people and infected 9,54,881 so far. The recovery count rose to 8,39,082 after another 5,185 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

The DGHS statistics showed that of the people infected from the beginning 87.87 percent recovered, while 1.59 percent died.

Bangladesh started vaccination in February with the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine from the Serum Institute of India. The supply is now stopped due to rising cases in India.

The government on Friday night and Saturday morning received 4.5 million doses of Covid19 vaccines from the US under the Covax mechanism and China under a purchase deal.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, earlier, urged all not to be worried about Covid19 vaccines as he received 'positive indications' from a number of countries regarding the supplies of more doses to Bangladesh.
