US announces scholarship for school teachers

The application period for the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers (FDAI) is now open, the US embassy in Dhaka said.

The programme brings international primary and secondary teachers to the United States for a semester-long professional development program at a US host university to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States.

The Fulbright DAI program is sponsored by the US Department of State and implemented by IREX, a Washington, D.C. based nonprofit organisation.

The application deadline for the 2021-2022 programme is Thursday, April 15, at 4:30pm.

The programme also entails a two-month internship at an American school to engage participants with US teachers and students. 

Trips to US cultural sites and academic support will be provided for participants throughout the program, subject to the pandemic situation.

Applicants must meet certain criteria such as be a full-time secondary educator with five or more years of classroom experience in disciplines including Social Studies, Civics Education, Mathematics, English as a Foreign Language, Science, and special education; demonstrate a proven track record of professional development activities and leadership; be a citizen of Bangladesh and have no dual citizenship; be proficient in spoken and written English, among others.
