UPDF man shot dead, another abducted

A member of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-mainstream) was gunned down by unknown armed criminals at Boyalchhari village in Bandukbhanga union under Rangamati sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sumon Chakma alias October, 30, of Naniachar village in Rangamati. Sumon was a collector of UPDF. The armed terrorists abducted his colleague Babuchha Chakma alias Arpon, 32, at gunpoint when they were leaving the scene. 

A gang of unknown armed terrorists came to Boyalchhari village by a speedboat at around at 8 am and chased the duo when they were having tea at a tea stall. The terrorists brushed fire at Sumon killing him on the spot, when he tried to flee from the scene. The attackers picked Arpon up at gunpoint and left the scene by their speedboat, said Md. Mir Zahidul Islam Roni, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station, quoting locals. 

However, the OC said that police could not track the dead body as the attackers took it away with them.

UPDF in a press release, issued by its press section blamed their rival faction Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS-MN Larma) for the attack. UPDF also accused that members of law enforcing agencies did not take any legal action against armed activists of MN Larma faction despite possessing arms and ammunitions publicly at Suvalong Bazar of Suvalong union in the district. UPDF condemned the killing and kidnapping incident and demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the attackers.
