A meeting will be held next week between the two city corporations to finalize a drainage management action plan to reduce water logging in the capital, said Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mohammad Tajul Islam on Saturday, reports BSS.

The minister also remarked that the city corporations would be able to work better than Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) as the responsibility was handed over to the city corporations from them, said a press release issued.

He made the remark in response to a question from newsmen, present at the press briefing after the presentation of ‘Bill Collection Award-2019-2020’ at Dhaka WASA Bhaban in the capital on Saturday.

The award was given by WASA to various private and government banks, said the release.

Tajul said “Work has already began after handing over the city’s drainage system from Dhaka WASA to the two city corporations, but the ministry will work to finalize an action plan with the two city corporations next week.”

“Everything necessary will be done to solve the civic problems, and to make Dhaka a modern livable city,” the minister said.

Hoping that the two city corporations will work to mitigate the water shortage the minister said, “Plans have been taken and activities have started to set up an ‘Incineration Plant’ at Aminbazar to generate electricity from waste.”

Tajul said that if the incineration plant is supplied with the required amount of waste per day, there will be no more waste lying around the city.

“Plants will be set up in all city corporations and in each district gradually,” he said.

Mentioning that many achievements have been made in the country under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina in materializing Bangabandhu’s dream of ‘Sonar Bangla’ he said that special importance has been given to the integrated initiative in the 8th Five Year Plan.

“In order to take the country to the desired goal, the responsibility that is on everyone must be fulfilled with honesty and sincerity,” he said.

Dhaka WASA Managing Director Engineer Taksim A Khan presided over the function while Dhaka WASA Board Chairman Dr Engineer Golam Mostafa and Local Government Additional Secretary Mohammad Ibrahim were present as the special guests.

The ‘Bill Collection Award’ was given to the managing directors of 37 public and private banks on the occasion.
