A Union Parishad member under Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria was killed allegedly by a neighbour over a land dispute on Friday.
The deceased Saikat Hossain, 45, was a member of Meheri Union of Kasba Upazila.
Local people said there was a dispute over a piece of land for a long time between Manik Miah and Siddique Master of Jamuna village. A few days ago the dispute was settled through a local arbitration. Later Saikat Hossain rejected the arbitrator’s decision.
Last Friday night Siddique Master and Saikat Hossain were engaged in an altercation in this regard at a local school room. At a stage Siddique master stabbed Saikat Hossain with a knife, it is alleged.
Local people rescued Saikat in a critical condition and sent him to Kasba Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated there, he was being taken to Dhaka for better treatment. But he died on the way.
Kasba Police Inspector Asadul Islam told reporters that legal action will be taken after receiving written complaint in this regard.
