Unilever deposits Tk 8cr as dividend to Labour Welfare Fund

Unilever Bangladesh Limited and Unilever Consumer Care Limited have deposited a fixed portion of their last fiscal year's dividend of Tk 8 crore 7 lakh to the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation fund under the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

A delegation of four members led by Ruhul Quddus, Supply Chain Director of Unilever Bangladesh Limited handed over a check of 7 crore 69 lakh 36 thousand 8 taka for Unilever Bangladesh Limited and a check of 37 lakh 71 thousand 848 taka for Unilever Consumer Care Limited at the Secretariat today.

According to the Bangladesh Labor Act, there is a provision to deposit one tenth of five percent of the company's net profit to the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation Fund. So far, 293 domestic and foreign and multinational companies are paying regular dividends to this fund. The amount of deposits till date in this fund is more than 760 crore taka. From this fund, assistance is given to workers in the institutional and non-institutional sectors in case of accidental death at work, treatment of injured, terminally ill workers and higher education of meritorious children of workers. So far 15,237 workers have been given assistance of about Tk 66 crore from this fund.

The secretary of the ministry said in the check giving ceremony. Ehsane Elahi, Director General of Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation. Molla Jalal Uddin, Joint Secretary. Mohidur Rahman, Secretary of Unilever Bangladesh Limited Rashedal Qayyum, Head of Corporate Affairs Shamima Akhtar and Head of Regulatory Affairs of Unilever Consumer Care Limited and Company Secretary Mohammad Naharul Mollah were present.
