UK, Australia, US chartering new flights from Dhaka to return citizens

The UK, Australia and the US are chartering flights to take back its citizens amid coronavirus spread.

Those missions in Dhaka asked their citizens willing to return to keep in touch with them and be ready to go in a short notice. They have to pay for those flights.

"There are three things I’d like to say very quickly,” British High Commission Robert Dickson in a video message said.

“The first is that we’re working very hard on chartered flights and we hope to be able to let you know very soon what is happening. But please be assured that we’re on the case with our colleagues in London,” he said.

“The second thing is there will clearly be charges for these flights, they’re not being provided free. We’ll let you know as soon as we can what those charges will be.

“The third thing is that we may need to make announcements at quite short notice about the precise timing and arrangements for the flights. So if you are a British visitor in Bangladesh, hoping to return to the UK, it’ll be a good thing now to put yourself in a position where you’ll be able to travel quickly when we’re able to let you know about the timing and arrangement for flights,” he said.

Australian High Commissioner Jeremy Bruer in a message said they have already hired a non-schedule flight of Sri Lankan Airlines to bring Australians home from Bangladesh.

“For those of you who have not yet registered, please click the link to our website below, follow the instructions to download the form and email it to us at [email protected],” the High Commissioner said.

“While we will endeavour to provide enough seats for everyone who wishes to return home, those who have registered already will be prioritised. I strongly encourage you to make use of this opportunity to depart, as we may not be in a position to organise a further non-scheduled flight,” read the message.

The US embassy which earlier took back its citizens in two flights has scheduled another special chartered flight for US Citizens and their families.

The flight departs from Dhaka on Monday, April 13 and arrives in Washington, D.C. the following day.
