UGC probe body suggests removal of BSMRSTU VC

The University Grants Commission (UGC)’s probe body has found the allegations against the vice-chancellor of the in Gopalganj based Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) are true. The probe body, formed to investigate allegations of sexual harassment, corruption, nepotism and irregularities in recruitment process against BSMRSTU Vice-Chancellor Prof Khondoker Nasiruddin submitted their report to ministry on Sunday which they claimed to have found evidence of allegations.

They also recommend withdrawing of the BSMRSTU vice-chancellor Prof Khondoker Nasiruddin for the sake of academic activities of the campus. Earlier, UGC formed a five-member committee to investigate the current unrest BSMRSTU in Gopalganj. Later a four-member team led by Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum of UGC visited BSMRSTU to investigate the overall situation on the campus.

They also talked to the protesters who were demonstrating demanding resignation of the Vice-Chancellor Prof Khondoker Nasiruddin. The protesting students brought 14 specific allegations against the VC Prof Khondoker Nasiruddin including sexual harassment and nepotism in recruitment. Under the banner of ‘General Students of BSMRSTU’, the protesters continued staging demonstration since September 18 demanding the VC’s resignation for his alleged involvement in corruption and irregularities.
