Two Students’ Rights Council leader jailed over DU student rape incident

A Dhaka court on Thursday has ordered to send Saiful Islam, joint convener of the Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council, and Mohammad Nazmul Huda, vice-president of the Dhaka University (DU) branch of the council to jail, in a case filed against them by a DU student for allegedly raping her and collaborating the rape, reports BSS.

The accused were produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court today after a two-day remand.

Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury scrapped their bail application and directed to send them to jail.

Earlier on Monday, police produced them before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.

They were remanded for seven days for proper investigation of the case.

Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan granted a two-day remand.

Earlier on Sunday (October 11th) night, they were arrested from the capital.

Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Detective Branch (DB) Rajib Al Masud told BSS that the accused were arrested after a DU student filled a case against them alleging rape with Kotwali police station.
