Two JMB suspects arrested in Mymensingh

A team of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested two suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from an under construction house in Digarkanda area of the district town on Thursday, reports BSS.

The detainees were identified as Ayatullah Al Kabir alias Ami Jihadi Balok, 19, hailing from Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona and Abu Abdullah Md Soyaeb, 25, of Lohagara upazila in Chattogram, RAB-14 sources said.

Kabir is a student at a medical institute in Mymensingh city while Soyaeb is an employee at Chattogram Builders and Machineries, Mymensingh branch. They used to reside in Mymensingh city. At a press conference this afternoon, Commander of RAB-14 Lt Col Iftekhar Uddin said on information a team of the elite force raided the house located in Digarkanda area in the town and arrested them around 12:30 am.

However, other associates of them managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of RAB men. The team also seized jihadi books, two laptops, two mobile phones and leaflets from their possession.

 During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that they have been the active members of JMB since 2017, Iftekhar Uddin said. After interrogation, they were handed over to Kotwali Police Station.
