Two-day long Robot Olympiad begins at DU

A two-day long Bangladesh Robot Olympiad has begun on Friday at Teacher-Student center (TSC) premises of Dhaka University (DU), reports BSS. State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as the chief guest while Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the Olympiad.

The Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering of DU and Bangladesh Open Source Network jointly organised the event, said a DU press release. While addressing the event, Palak urged the students to play effective role to develop education, health and agriculture sectors in Bangladesh by utilizing Robotics knowledge properly.  “The government would provide financial support to establish a modern Robotics Lab at the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering of DU,” he said. VC Akhtaruzzaman called upon the young generation to play pioneering role to upgrade the human civilization through new and modern scientific inventions.

He stressed the need for creating scientific mindset among the youth community to face challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. “The new generation has to prepare themselves with humanitarian values along with scientific development,” the VC urged the students. Chairman of the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering of DU Dr Shamim Ahmed Dewan presided over the inaugural session while President of Bangladesh Robot Olympiad Prof Dr Lafifa Jamal, General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network Monir Hassan and Chief Coordinator of Bangladesh Robot Olympiad Redwan Ferdous also addressed the programme. Around 400 students from different schools of the country are participating in this Olympiad.
