Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sent medical equipment to Bangladesh for Covid-19 pandemic.

Ambassador in Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan handed over those gifts to Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday at the state guesthouse Padma.

Those include ventilators, N-95 masks, gowns, face shield, and protective eye glasses. This is the fourth tranche of Turkish medical equipment that came to Bangladesh in the ongoing pandemic.

During the handing over ceremony, the foreign minister also discussed the bilateral issues with the ambassador.

After the meeting, Dr Momen said the new Turkish chancery in Bangladesh is ready to open and his counterpart Mevlut Cavusog will visit Dhaka soon to inaugurate it.

He reiterated that the Turkish President will visit Bangladesh in person as soon as COVID-19 pandemic is over either to attend the final event of ‘Mujib Borsho’ on March 17 or the D-8 Summit.

“We are ready to welcome the Turkish President,” he said, adding that the President accepted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's invitation to visit Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is celebrating Mujib Barsho, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Turkey also wants to enhance the trade relations with Bangladesh.

“Turkish President is committed to enhancing ties with Bangladesh. Trade should exceed $ 2 billion,” the foreign minister told reporters after the meeting. The two-way trade was $935.8 million last year.
