Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van, Tank Lorry, Prime Mover Owners-Workers Coordination Council has placed a 10-point demand that includes bringing the perpetrators of the murderers of two transport workers under the law and providing exemplary punishment to them through proper investigation.
If the 10-point demand is not met by September 26, the organization has announced to go on a 48-hour strike from September 27.
The convener of the organization Md Rustam Ali Khan made the demands and announcement from a human chain formed in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday.
Their other demands include issuing of license on easy terms by resolving the complexities of the driving license procedure; taking effective measures in the incidents of theft, robbery, and snatching of goods while transporting goods and bringing the driver, owner, or transport agency involved under the law and giving exemplary punishment.
They have asked for withdrawal of the increased income tax and opportunities to update the vehicle documents without fine as before; cessationof police harassment and extortion in the name of checking documents on roads and highways and opportunities to recover operating expenses in accordance with the guidelines of the Owners and Workers Coordinating Council.
They further demanded to scrap the initiatives of forming committees with controversial individuals; build truck terminals along the roads and highways and in every district with modern facilities and stopextraction of illegal tolls have on the roads and highways of city corporations and municipalities across the country, including Dhaka North and South City Corporationsapart from the terminal.
According to the last point of the demands, the country’s highways have to be supervised only by the highway police and the papers and documents of vehicles have to be checked at specific places.
